PTP pushes the envelope - < 100 nanosecond synchronization via NTP is here !
MEINBERG has announced a cooperative design effort with a Swiss Institute in order to add PTP (Precise Time Protocol) support to the LANTIME series of time servers. PTP (IEEE 1588) is a protocol for network time synchronization, just like NTP but with dramatically improved accuracy (sub-microsecond compared to sub-millisecond). It is suitable for small and well-designed networks in industrial environments, e.g. process automation or data logging.
